Occasionally the characters are weak or unevenly applied. A hand stamp is used and can be difficult to read. There are also symbols on the right side of the barrel. The R.E.P. proof mark is usually surrounded by an oval. The magnaflux stamp is most often a symbol inside of a triangle and usually appears to the left of the proof mark, but also may appear to the right or below it. The gallery stamp is to the right of these and may be either one or two symbols or letters. The gallery stamp(s) signify function and accuracy testing. When measuring barrel lengths, go from the gas port on the operating side of the receiver to the muzzle.

Unless using a custom-cut footprint, the sides may be left unprotected. • The bathtub floor is great and somewhat deep, especially on the Trango 3. I like clips on the tent canopy/body better than the sleeves on TNF Mountain 25. • The clips are strong and durable, but take a little work to operate and use.

Using these barrel codes to date a shotgun is somewhat unreliable, as shotgun barrels are often interchanged at random. One needs to be sure that the barrel is original to the gun before trusting the Barrel Code listing, above. (*) On 8/9/99, stopped stamping the barrels with the date code. They continued to mark the date code on the end flap of the shipping box. They resumed stamping the date code on the barrel on 10/1/01. Also http://oldguns.net/sn_php/remdates.php |
